How to strip body fat
I’ve been getting a lot of questions about “How to strip body fat” and “fat loss and spot reductions”.
Some of the questions I’ve been asked:
- Do sit ups help to burn off tummy fat?
- Or does doing squats burn fat from your legs?
- How can I get rid of my bingo wings?
All legit questions, but I was shocked to see how many people didn’t know that you CAN NOT pick and choose where your body loses fat from. No exercise can target arms, legs, back or any other area specifically for fat loss.
Where we store fat is dictated by our genetics. We can’t influence this so spending hours doing sit ups to get rid of your belly fat isn’t an effective use of your time.
To lose suborn belly fat (or any fat) you have to be eating less energy than you’re burning. You have to be in a calorie deficit. It is not the exercise or the movement that will dictate where you burn fat from. It is the calorie deficit that will make you lose fat.
So instead of smashing the sit ups; spend your time getting your steps, prepping calorie controlled meals and working out in a way you enjoy.
Exercise because you enjoy it, because it makes you feel good, because it’s good for your health. It will help you achieve a deficit if your calories are controlled, but it won’t spot reduce fat.
If anyone tells you can burn bell fat, thigh fat or any other kind of “targeted fat loss” tell them to DO ONE! You can’t. Fact.
And don’t get me started on those people who promote the best foods, drinks, supplements or leggings (yes, leggings) to burn fat…
